Another week, another AMC Player of the Week award for Beyer

Another week, another AMC Player of the Week award for Beyer

Make it a ten-spot for UHSP's Grace Beyer in terms of AMC Player of the Week awards she has racked up this season. Monday, the Eutectic guard landed her tenth overall selection this year as she claimed the award for the week of Feb. 5-11. Beyer has now won the award back-to-back weeks and in seven of the last eight.

An easy way to put yourself in good position to take another POW award is to score 83 points over two games, which is exactly what Beyer did against American Midwest Conference foes William Woods and Columbia last week. A 48-point, six rebound, seven assist performance against the Owls was the highlight game of the week for Beyer. She followed that up by scoring 35 points against the Cougars going a perfect 15-for-15 from the foul line. In the two games, Beyer shot 46.7% from the floor (21-of-45) including knocking down half of her ten three-point attempts. She finished 36-of-37 from the foul line overall.

Beyer continues to lead the country in scoring by averaging 34.0 points-per-game. She is closing in on the all-time NAIA career scoring mark set by Miriam Walker-Samuels (Claflin, S.C.) who scored 3,855 points, the most at any level in women's college basketball. Beyer is 162 points away from that mark with five regular-season games left and a first-round game of the AMC Tournament. She is also currently seventh in the nation this year in free-throw percentage at 91.2%.

There are three more opportunities this week for Beyer to gain ground on Walker-Samuels as the Eutectics host Missouri Baptist on Tuesday before making a two-game swing through Arkansas to play Central Baptist and Williams Baptist. Averaging 34.0ppg, Beyer is on pace to set the record in the regular season finale at home on Feb. 24 against Hannibal-LaGrange.

Beyer matches the number of AMC POW's she won in her third season as a Eutectic in 2021-22 when she also won ten. She claimed the award a personal-high 11 times last year. This is the 33rd overall AMC Player of the Week award in Beyer's career.
