UHSP ATHLETICS DAY OFF POLICY

All sport specific activities shall be prohibited during one calendar day per week, except during participation in one conference postseason championship, one approved governing body championship, and during participation in NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) championships. Sport specific activities include practice, film, coach led individual instruction, and conditioning. Sport specific activities do not include study halls, community service, team building activities, and meeting/ treatment with Athletic Training. A calendar week is seven consecutive days from Monday-Sunday. This requirement is intended to give student athletes one calendar day off per week during the sport season or other approved time periods.

  • Travel Day - A travel day related to athletics participation may be considered as a day off, provided no countable athletically related activities occur during that day.
  • Canceled Competition - When an institution's competition is canceled prior to the start of competition or canceled prior to the competition being considered a completed event in accordance with the playing rules of that sport, an institution may use that day as its required day off, provided the institution does not engage in any further countable athletically related activities during that day.
  • Preseason Practice - An institution is not required to provide student-athletes with one day off per week during preseason practice that occurs prior to the first day of classes, or the first scheduled contest, whichever is earlier.
  • Holiday Breaks / End of Academic Calendar – When no classes are in session it is not required to provide student-athletes with one day off per week.

This policy does not prohibit student-athletes training in any way on their own, nor does it restrict communication between coaches and student-athletes on the mandatory day off.

Student-athletes are encouraged to use the day off to invest in their academic responsibilities, physical recovery, and mental health management.

Should a UHSP student-athlete feel their coach is not observing the policy, as defined above, they are encouraged to contact Will Wolper, AMC Commissioner, at wwolper@amcsportsonline.com or call him at (636) 231-5452
