Eutectics Can’t Find Redemption on the Road

In a challenging road matchup, the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Eutectics Women's basketball team faced a formidable opponent in the Stephens College Stars and succumbed to a 68-53 defeat.

Despite another impressive performance from Grace Beyer, who led the team with 31 points and 9 rebounds, the Eutectics couldn't overcome the Stars' dominance on their home court. Samantha Matthews contributed 13 points, Elizabeth Allanach added 5 points and 9 rebounds, while Payten Foster chipped in with 4 points.

Beyer had a flawless performance at the free-throw line, going a perfect 16 for 16. However, the Euts couldn't compensate for the collective struggles the team faced throughout the game. The Eutectics had entered the game seeking redemption after a previous loss to the Stars at home on January 6th, where they fell short with a 62-58 score. Unfortunately, the road proved to be an unforgiving battleground.

The Eutectics held a 7-2 lead for much of the first quarter, but the Stars chipped away and took an 8-7 lead just over midway through the first. The teams tied it back up twice before Stephens pulled ahead by two to end the first, and they never looked back. The Stars led by as many as 19 points, and despite their best efforts, proved to be too much for UHSP to overcome.

Turnovers plagued the Eutectics, with a staggering 22 compared to the Stars' 9, highlighting the challenges the team faced in maintaining possession and controlling the game's tempo. Mia Morel led the Stars with 17 points, exploiting the Eutectics' defensive gaps, while Chu Crockett excelled on the boards with 10 rebounds.

With this defeat, the Eutectics' season record now stands at 12-9, and their conference record at 7-4 in the AMC. In contrast, the Stars continued their impressive run with a season record of 16-5 (11-0 at home) and a commanding 11-1 in the AMC, which is good enough for first place.

Looking ahead, the Eutectics have little time to dwell on the setback, as they prepare to face William Woods (11-8, 5-5 AMC) at home on Thursday, February 8th, at 5:30 pm.
