Eutectic Teams Bring Home 5th and 6th Place at AMC Championships
HANNIBAL, MO. – The Eutectic men's and women's cross country teams travelled to Hannibal, Mo., Friday morning to take part in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Championships hosted by Hannibal-LaGrange University. The UHSP women's team finished in sixth place of eight full teams competing, while the UHSP men were fifth of seven teams.
It was the first 6K distance race of the season for the UHSP women, but the Eutectics came through with quality race times and finishes for a team score of 182, outrunning Williams Baptist College and Central Baptist College - the seventh- and eighth-place teams. William Woods University won the championships meet with a score of 40.
The Eutectic women were led by junior Abby Baxter who finished the 6K course with a time of 27:44.88 for 31st place of 62 runners competing. Freshmen Laila Wells and Layla Aguilar were the number two and three finishers for UHSP in 35th and 37th places at 29:33.83 and 31:24.06, respectively. Newcomer Ellie Creasey was 39th at 31:53.40 and senior Sophie Eastham rounded out the top five scorers for the Eutectic team at 33:37.90 in 40th place. Freshman Karlea Frey and Charlie Dunajcik were the six and seven runners the UHSP team.
After not scoring in single meet all season, the Eutectic men surprised everyone with a fifth-place finish among seven teams competing in the 8K race. The UHSP team finished with a score of 167, beating out Crowley's Ridge College (174) and Central Baptist College (177). Columbia College won the championship with 32 points.
Sophomore Jack Wolfe led the Eutectics across the finish line in 25th place of 63 runners with a time of 32:17.85. Track specialist Jared Morales was the second UHSP runner to score in 31st place at 39:54.97. Super senior Zach Brasel was 34th at 42:19.35 was followed closely by pole vaulter Brock Beins in 35th place at 43:35.32. Former Eutectic soccer athlete Mitchell Harris rounded out the top five scoring Eutectics in 42nd place at 48:59.27. Eutectic thrower Nick Fiacco also competed for the Eutectic squad.
The AMC Championships closes out the season for the Eutectic squad. Many of the team's runners will now begin preparing for the Indoor Track & Field season set to begin with the first meet on Saturday, Dec. 7.
