Eutectics Get Sneak Peak of AMC Course at Trojan Invitational

After a few weeks off from racing, the Eutectic women's cross country team returned to competition on Saturday at the Trojan Invitational in Hannibal, Mo. The meet was hosted by Hannibal-LaGrange University on the same course that will be the site of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Championships on Nov. 8.

The Women's 5K race kicked off the day as the first of six events of the invitational, which included Men's and Women's Collegiate races, along with high school and middle school boys' and girls' races.

With only four Eutectic women competing in the Collegiate 5K, the Eutectics did not score as a team. Host Hannibal-LaGrange put five runners in the top-10 to win their own meet, beating out the only other full-team: Quincy University (Ill.).

The Eutectics were led by freshman Layla Aguilar, who finished 11th of 21 runners with a time of 26:14.61 – more than a minute and a half faster than her previous personal record set earlier this season. She was followed across the finish line by fellow freshmen Laila Wells (14th) and Karlea Frey (17th). Junior Charlie Dunajcik finished in 20th place.

The men's and women's Eutectic teams will be back in action next Saturday, Oct. 19, when they host the Mikayla Sherrill Fall Classic at Willmore Park in St. Louis. The event will begin with a high school girls' 5K race at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Collegiate Women's 5K at 9:45 a.m., then the high school boys' 5K at 10:30 a.m. and the Collegiate Men's 8K at 11:05 a.m.
