Eutectics Earn AMC Victory in Season Finale Against Hornets
ST. LOUIS, MO. - In a dramatic conclusion to their season, the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Eutectics women's volleyball team edged out a thrilling 3-2 American Midwest Conference (AMC) win against the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets on Tuesday at the Hornets' home gym in St. Louis.
The Eutectics displayed resilience and skill throughout the five-set battle. Initially, they took a narrow victory in the first set with a score of 25-23. The Hornets responded strongly in the second set, taking it 25-19, but the Eutectics regained control with a 25-21 win in the third. However, in the fourth set, the Hornets dominated, locking in six service aces to claim the set quickly at 25-12 and force a fifth deciding set. The intensity reached its peak in the final set, where the Eutectics took a 5-0 lead, but allowed the Hornets to scramble back to within one point towards on set point. At 14-13, however, a kill by Sierra Aplanap set by Jenna Brinson secured the Eutectic victory with a tight 15-13 score.
Leading performances came from Amber Loo, who tallied 15 kills and 13 digs, Sophia Michaud with 10 kills, and Hannah Kynaston, who also reached double figures in kills and contributed significantly in blocks and assists. On the defensive side, Macy Hendrix led with 17 digs. Jenna Brinson put up 37 assists in the match to finish with 685 assists for the season and a total of 2,148 career assists over her three seasons as a Eutectic.
The match held even greater significance as it marked both teams' pursuit for their first Conference victory of the season. With this win, the Eutectics advanced to 11th place in the Conference standings, shifting the Hornets down to 12th place. The Eutectics conclude their season with a record of 4-30 overall and 1-10 in the AMC.
