Brinson become just second Eutectic to 2,000 career assists in loss to WWU

FULTON, MO – Despite being on the wrong side of the final score, it would be a night to remember for the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy's Jenna Brinson as she surpassed 2,000 assists in her career. The Eutectics would see William Woods prevail in three straight 25-17, 25-12, 25-19 on Tuesday night to claim the American Midwest Conference matchup. William Woods runs their consecutive match winning streak over the Eutectics to 13 straight matches.

Brinson would pile up 19 assists on the night and become just the second Eutectic to ever reach the 2,000 career assist plateau. She now has 2,013 helpers in her career. Brinson opened the season in 4th place on the UHSP all-time career assist list and just recently moved into second-place passing Kacie Kinnikin who had 1,988. Kaitlyn LaBoube is the UHSP all-time career leader in assists having amassed 2,869. With still seven matches left this year and her senior season yet to go, Brinson has an outside shot at chasing down LaBoube for the record.

The Owls scored the opening four points to open the match, but after falling behind early a pair of kills from Tera Schumacher in a 3-0 UHSP run eventually got things knotted at 7-7. WWU answered with a 7-0 run before the Eutectics got on the board again. After cutting it to 16-11, William Woods scored five straight to put things out of reach in the first. UHSP did have a 5-0 run later thanks to kills from Sophia Michaud and Hannah Kynaston and an AnnMarie Cates ace, but it was too little too late as the Owls won it 25-17.

The second set go out of hand early. After an early kill from Michaud, the Owls went on an 8-0 run to lead 9-1. After UHSP scored two out of three to make it 12-5, William Woods again went on a mini-run scoring five consecutive as the Owls had a double-digit lead at 17-5. The home club took eight of the final 15 points to seal the deal in the second set.

The third set was more what the Eutectics had hoped much of the night would be, competitive and back-and-forth throughout. The Purple and Gold had a couple of early one-point leads until WWU scored five in a row to lead 7-3. At 8-4, Brinson set up Sumanpreet Kaur for a kill and Amber Loo scored on an ace as part of a 3-0 spurt to pull UHSP to within one at 8-7. The Owl lead would pin-ball around anywhere between one and four points for most of the remainder of the set. An attack error by William Woods brought it to 21-19 in favor of WWU. Brinson went behind the service line trying to find a way to get her club the lead, but the Owls scored four straight to put an end to the night.

Hannah Kynaston paced the visitors' offense with six kills while Macy Hendrix led the defense with eight digs. Pamela Durazo led William Woods with 11 kills. The Owls never hit lower than .225 in any set finishing the night at .264 as a team. UHSP's best set was the opening set at .143 as they hit .038 as a club.

It will be a weekend road trip to Nevada, MO for the Eutectics (3-24, 0-5 AMC) as they continue their season-ending slate of AMC games. They visit Cottey (6-15, 0-4 AMC) at 1:00pm on Saturday before returning home for their final two home matches of the season, next Tuesday against Stephens College and then Thursday, Oct. 24 against the Columbia Cougars. UHSP finishes the regular season with a four-match road swing.
