Macon-Ford Named AMC Track Athlete of the Week, Again

Freshman Leah Macon-Ford is quickly racking up accolades on the track this outdoor season, earning back-to-back American Midwest Conference (AMC) Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week awards - this time for the week of Mar. 24-30.

Competing in two separate meets at Saint Louis University last weekend, Macon-Ford set three new school record times (100m, 200m, 4x100m Relay), winning the 100m twice, and earning NAIA B-standard qualification with the seventh-fastest 100m time in the nation.

On Friday, Macon-Ford broke her own school record in the 100m Dash to win the event at the SLU Speed/Power Festival. She beat out 18 other sprinters with a time of 11.96 – just a hair faster than her previous record of 12.07 (set the previous weekend). At the same meet, she was part of the school-record breaking 4x100m Relay, clocking a time of 50.34.

On Saturday, at the Billiken Invite, Macon-Ford again ran the 100m Dash, improving on her Friday record time with an NAIA provisional qualifying time of 11.84 to win the event consisting of 34 competitors. (B standard national 100m qualification time is 11.88.) That same day, she demolished the school record in the 200m Dash, finishing 12th of 48 sprinters with a time of 26.03. The previous UHSP record has held since Grace Noble ran 27.34 back in 2013.

Macon-Ford's 100m and 4x100m times currently lead the AMC. She sits third in the Conference for the 200m.

It is Macon-Ford's second AMC Track Athlete of the Week honor for the outdoor season. She earned two Indoor Track Athlete of the Week awards earlier this year, prior to winning the 60m and 200m dashes at the Conference Championships and qualifying for nationals in the 60m at the end of February.

Macon-Ford and the rest of the Eutectic team will be back on the track on Friday, when they travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to compete at the Joey Haines Invite hosted by Southeast Missouri State University.
