Women Place Fifth at Final Regular Season Meet
TERRE HAUTE, IND. - The Eutectic outdoor track and field teams travelled Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday to compete at the Sycamore Open, hosted by Indiana State University. The Eutectic women score 41 points at the meet to finish fifth of 12 teams competing. The UHSP men were 10th of 11. It was the final meet of the regular season for the Eutectics, who will compete at the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Championships this week.
Women:
Senior Alyssa McPike and Freshman Payton Burke turned in season-best times in the 400m Dash to finish one-two in the event for a total of 18 points for the Euts. McPike's time of 1:04.42 currently sits as the 8th-fastest in the AMC, while Burke's 1:05.90 is 11th. Both also competed in the 200m Dash, with Burke clocking a season-best wind-aided time of 28.20.
Freshmen Elizabeth Fritzler and Hanna Burch, along with sophomore Lannah Prysi, all scored in the Discus Throw, finishing fourth, sixth, and eighth, respectively. Burch notched a season-best throw of 32.48m (106'06.75"), which vaults her into 11th place in the AMC rankings. Fritzler's Saturday mark was 36.62m (118'11.5") – just 2'02" less than her season-best toss of 36.92 (121'01.5"), which ranks her fifth in the Conference.
Freshman Alivia Simily finished second in the Triple Jump at 9.77m (32'0.5") on Saturday to score eight points for UHSP. With her season-best mark of 10.96m (35'11.5"), she will head into the Conference meet on the top of the AMC performance list in the event.
Arianna Buduan finished seventh in the High Jump with a leap of 1.40m (4'07"). Her season-best jump of 1.44m (4'08.5") currently ranks 6th in the AMC.
Senior Lilly Combs and sophomore Brianna Ramsey picked up two points each in their seventh-place finishes in the throwing events. In the Javelin Throw, Combs tossed 24.45m (80'02.5"), while Ramsey hit 40.61m (133'02.75") in the Hammer Throw. Ramsey currently ranks third in the AMC with her UHSP record mark of 41.99m (137'09") set on March 16th.
Men:
Freshman Jack Wolfe and sophomore Jeremy Smith competed in the 3,000m Steeplechase for the first time in their careers. The two scored 11 points in the event with third- and fourth-place finishes at the meet. Wolfe's finishing time of 11:37.44 is currently the sixth-best in the AMC, while Smith's time of 13:51.84 is seventh.
Senior thrower Nick Fiacco got one last competition in before the AMC Championships. He competed in the Javelin Throw, finishing 14th with a mark of 32.56m (106'09.75").
The Eutectics will head to the St. Louis suburb of Creve Coeur, Mo., for the AMC Outdoor Championships hosted by Missouri Baptist University this Wednesday and Thursday, May 2-3.
