UHSP Competes at SLU Alumni Meet

The Eutectic men's and women's outdoor track and field teams stayed in St. Louis this weekend, competing at the non-scoring SLU Alumni Meet hosted by Saint Louis University on Friday and Saturday. Taylor Washington and Nick Fiacco came away with first-place finishes at the meet and several other UHSP athletes turned in personal bests with two weeks left before the American Midwest Conference (AMC) championships.

Women

Taylor Washington beat out two Division I athletes from SLU in the High Jump to finish first in the event. The trio cleared 1.44m (4'8.75"), but only Washington was able to make it over the bar at 1.49m (4'10.5") on her second attempt to win the event. Washington also finished second (of five) in the 100m Hurdles with a wind-aided time of 16.60 seconds.

On her first attempt, Elizabeth Fritzler threw a personal best in the Javelin Throw to finish fourth of 13 entered in the event. Her mark of 29.10m (95'5.5") vaults her into fourth-place among UHSP throwers of all time. Fritzler also beat out four SLU Division I athletes in the Shot Put to finish second (of six) with a mark of 11.25m (36'11").

Hannah Burch and Lannah Prysi also tossed personal bests in the Javelin Throw at the meet. Burch finished seventh at 27.82m, and Prysi was 12th at 19.13m.

Payton Burke improved on her best time in the 200m Dash, finishing eighth of 11 at the meet. Her new time of 28.39 moves her into fourth-place for UHSP all-time best 200m runners.

Paulina Gutierrez-Trejo continued improving her time in the 400m Hurdles, running a personal-best of 1:23.62 for second place in the event.

Alyssa McPike ran her fastest 800m so far this season to finish sixth (of 10) in the 800m Run with a finishing time of 2:32.96.

McPike, Gutierrez-Trejo, Sophie Eastham, and Abby Baxter combined to run UHSP's first 4x400m Relay of the season, finishing second with a time of 4:59.50. 

 

Men

Nick Fiacco bested athletes from Harris-Stowe State University and Fontbonne University to win the Hammer Throw with a mark of 35.09m (115'01.5"). He also took first place in the Discus, beating out two Harris-Stowe athletes with a mark of 30.37m (99'07.5").

The men's 4x400m relay team competed for the first time this season, with Marlin Brown, Zach BraselJeremy Smith, and Jack Wolfe turning in a time of 3:53.73 for third place.

Brasel ran his fastest time so far this season in the 800m Run at 2:16.45 for seventh place.

Brown won his heat in the 400m Dash to finish seventh at 54.90.

 

Next weekend, the Eutectics will compete at the Sycamore Open hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute. That will be the last competition for the UHSP teams before the AMC Outdoor Championships scheduled for May 2-3 at Missouri Baptist University in Creve Coeur.
