Taylor Washington named Athlete of the Week for 2nd time in four weeks

UHSP's Taylor Washington is beginning to make a habit of this. For the sixth time this Track & Field season and the second time this outdoor season, the Eutectics' budding track star was named the American Midwest Conference's Track Athlete of the Week on Monday for the week of April 1-7.

Washington competed in three events at this past weekend's Billiken Invite in St. Louis, MO. She finished no worse than seventh overall in any of those events. In the 100-Meter Hurdles, Washington ran a 15.71 finishing fourth in Heat 2. She bested her time from the week before of 15.80 while competing at the Joey Haines Invite in Cape Girardeau, MO. Her 15.71 was fourth overall at the meet and was only 0.24 seconds off her personal best in the event.

In the High Jump, Washington ripped through her first three different heights clearing the bar at 1.38m, 1.41m and 1.44m all on her initial attempt. After an initial miss on her first attempt at 1.47m (4', 9.75"), Washington was clean on her second attempt. She could not pass the bar on three tries at 1.50m. The height of 1.47m placed her seventh overall in the event at SLU.

Washington also was part of the UHSP 4x100m Relay team, joined by Mariah Scott, Alivia Simily and Arianna Buduan. The Eutectic quarter ran a 52.67 to finish fifth in the meet. That time marks the second-fastest in program history in the 4x100m Relay event.

This marks the eighth Athlete of the Week nod for Washington in her still yet brief running career with the Eutectics. Washington and her teammates are back at it again this weekend as they run in Greenville, IL for the Greenville Select Meet on Saturday.
