Bushue and Renteria Break Records at Jim Green Invite
JACKSONVILLE, ILL. – Brett Bushue and Victoria Renteria broke school records to lead a small group of the Eutectic men's and women's indoor track and field teams at the Jim Green Invite hosted by Illinois College on Saturday. With only one week until the American Midwest Conference (AMC) championships, the UHSP teams used the Jim Green meet as a tune up for some athletes, while leaving several athletes home to rest and recover in preparation for Conference. No team scores were kept at the meet.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Brett Bushue smashed his own UHSP record in the Pole Vault by eight inches, flying over the bar at 3.95m (12'11.5") to finish eighth of 14 vaulters at the meet. His new record-height now leads the Conference by more than a foot. Ethan Arnoldi also vaulted to a new Personal Record (PR) to take ninth-place at the meet and claim the second-best mark in the AMC at 3.50m (11'5.75").
- Bushue also PRed by two inches in the High Jump, leaping to 1.85m (6'0.75") for fourth place of 22 jumpers at the meet. The new PR launches Bushue into a three-way tie for the top mark in the AMC with two Columbia jumpers: Silas Woodbury (who edged out Bushue at the meet with fewer misses) and Baden Glass.
- In her first collegiate 400m race, Victoria Renteria broke the Eutectic record for the distance, clocking a time of 1:06.86 to finish 17th of 28 runners at Jim Green. The time is currently the seventh-fastest in the AMC.
- UHSP athletes with Personal Records at the meet:
- Daniela Nether – Long Jump
- Sage Williamson – Shot Put
- Whitney Auguste – 400m Dash
- Brett Bushue – Pole Vault, High Jump
- Ethan Arnoldi – Pole Vault
- As the UHSP teams head into the Conference championships next week, they hold 17 top-eight marks in the AMC. Top-eight finishers in each event score points for the team at the meet. The Eutectics look to improve their 2024 fifth-place team finishes (for both men and women) at the AMC indoor championships.
NEXT UP:
The Eutectics will compete at the AMC Championships, on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Principia College in Elsah, Ill.
