Macon-Ford Named AMC Track Athlete of the Week
ST. LOUIS, MO. – The American Midwest Conference (AMC) has announced UHSP's Leah Macon-Ford as the Conference's Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for Jan. 13-19.
Macon-Ford raced the 60m Dash at the Illinois College Snow Bird Invite in Jacksonville, Ill., on Saturday, breaking her own UHSP record and finishing third overall.
In the 60m Prelims, she posted the second-best time of all 40 participants in the event, breaking her own school record by .01 seconds with a time of 7.74 to qualify for the Finals held later in the day. In the finals, Macon-Ford ran 7.77 to finish third of the eight finalists, turning in the fastest time for an NAIA athlete racing at the meet.
As a freshman, Macon-Ford immediately made her mark on UHSP sprinting, breaking the Eutectic record for both the 60m and 200m Dashes in the first meet of the season in December. She has continued to improve on the 60m record at each of the next two meets in 2025, coming ever closer to the NAIA national qualifying mark of 7.65. She currently boasts the fastest 60m time in the AMC.
Macon-Ford is the first UHSP Women's Track athlete to win the award for the 2024-25 indoor season, joining ranks with fellow-freshman Brett Bushue who won AMC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, Dec. 2-8, 2024. She is the fifth Eutectic in Women's Track and Field history to receive Athlete of the Week honors. The list also includes Macon-Ford's teammates Taylor Washington (8x), Elizabeth Fritzler, Hanna Burch, and Brianna Ramsey.
