
Macon-Ford, Bushue Smash Records at Coach Alsup Invite
MARYVILLE, MO. – Led by record-breaking performances by Brett Bushue and Leah Macon-Ford, the Eutectic men's and women's track and field teams competed in the first indoor meet of 2025 at the Coach Alsup Invitational hosted by Northwest Missouri State University on Saturday. It had been a over a month since they last competed before semester break, and the Eutectics returned to the track in prime form, notching several Top-10 finishes against individuals from 25 different teams competing in the non-team-scoring meet.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Leah Macon-Ford broke two of her own UHSP records in the sprints, coming closer to the NAIA B standard for national championship qualification in the 60m dash. Macon-Ford finished sixth of 50 sprinters in the 60m prelims to qualify for the finals with a time of 7.87. In the finals, she finished at 7.75 to take fourth place at the meet, improving her own record set in December by .02 seconds and coming closer to the national qualification time of 7.65. Her new time is the fastest in the AMC so far by .25 seconds. Macon-Ford also improved her record in the 200m to 26.71 from her December time of 27.33 to finish 19th of 60 sprinters in the event.
- Brett Bushue improved his own school record set last December in the Pole Vault by more than six inches, finishing in fourth place (of 11) with a leap of 3.75m (12-03.50). His new mark leads the American Midwest Conference (AMC). Bushue and fellow UHSP pole vaulters Ethan Arnoldi and Brock Beins hold three of the top-four marks in the Conference to date. Bushue also cleared 1.78m (5-10.00) in the High Jump for 15th place (of 26) to join the Eutectic Top-Five list at #3 after his first competition in the event for UHSP.
- Taylor Washington finished in the top-10 in both of her events. In the high jump, the defending Conference champion finished sixth (of 11) with a leap of 1.50m (4-11.00). In the 60m Hurdles, Washington ran 9.47 in the prelims to qualify for the finals, where she finished eighth overall (of 28) with a time of 9.48.
