Fast start by William Woods pushes Owls past UHSP

FULTON, MO – The effort to set a new single season record for most wins in a season will have to wait at least until Tuesday for the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy. Saturday night, William Woods got a 7-1 win over the Eutectics in their American Midwest Conference contest. The Owls improved to 12-0 all-time against UHSP.

It did not take the Owls long to get rolling as they held a 2-0 lead not even three minutes into the game as Marissa Kiemen and Hannah Loethen both scored unassisted against the reigning NAIA Defensive Player of the Week in Eutectic keeper Lauren Harding. Then in the 14th minute, Megan Hughes fed Lauren Helmert to make it a 3-0 game and just over 13 and half minutes later it was Zoe Hargis on the goal from Maddy Schrader as the Owls took a 4-0 lead to the half.

The Owls start to the second half netted a goal even quicker than their start to the game as Loethen needed just :19 seconds into the second half to make it 5-0. Zoe Lockhert assisted on a goal from Hughes at 70:31 before scoring herself just under eight minutes later assisted by Charley Luczak to make it a 7-0 game. The Eutectics lone goal came from Isabelle Rogers who scored unassisted at 82:07.

William Woods outshot UHSP 32-9 including 17-6 in shots on goal. Harding made ten saves in net for the Eutectics while Owls keeper Belle Boschert made five saves.

Tuesday morning, the Eutectics (6-6, 3-2 AMC) will get their next chance to set a new program record for wins in a season when they host Harris-Stowe 5-5-2, 2-2-1 (AMC) at 12:00pm. UHSP will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at noon when they host Missouri Baptist in the regular season finale.
