Illinois College thwarts Eutectics late rally
JACKSONVILLE, IL – The Eutectics fell just short of solving the Lady Blues. The University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy dropped a 3-2 decision to Illinois College to fall to 0-4 all-time against the Lady Blues.
The reigning American Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Kyndal Adams, wasted no time continuing her goal-scoring prowess. After scoring two goals in UHSP's last outing, Adams needed just 2:36 to get the visitors on the board for a 1-0 lead. Illinois College immediately ramped up the pressure unloading six shots over the next ten minutes, forcing Eutectics netminder Lauren Harding to make two saves. Despite keeping the Lady Blues off the board for the time being, Illinois College eventually broke through in the 29th minute as Abby Love scored off an assist from Olivia Ralston to knot things at one.
The two clubs traded shots on goal over the ensuing five minutes with the respective keepers making saves including Sophia Kriegesmann for IC. But just before the half, Erin O'Connell snuck one past Harding to put the home club in front 2-1 at the break.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, UHSP's Bayleigh Colianno was called for a foul in the box resulting in a penalty shot for Illinois College. Haley Sommer, who led the Lady Blues with six shot attempts in the game, buried the penalty shot and put the Lady Blues up by two. The Eutectics did not wilt though as Alexa Hildebrand scored with just under ten minutes left to again make it a one goal contest. But the Illinois College defense allowed only one shot by UHSP the rest of the way as the Lady Blues hung on for a 3-2 win.
Illinois College dominated in way of scoring chances as they outshot UHSP 24-5 including 11-4 in shots on goal. Sophia Kriegesmann got the win in net allowing one goal while making one save. Stella Gonzalez played the second half and finished with an identical line. Lauren Harding took the loss for the Eutectics and made eight saves.
The Eutectics (3-4, 1-0 AMC) play another non-conference game on Saturday night when they host former American Midwest Conference foe Lyon (2-4-1, 1-0 SLIAC) at 6pm in Creve Coeur. Following that, UHSP has a week off before resuming their AMC slate when they host Columbia College on Sunday, October 13 at 3:00pm.
