
Eutectics land on 6-line for Heart Tournament after loss to Culver-Stockton
CANTON, MO – Playoff positioning was on the line Wednesday afternoon as the Eutectics visited Culver-Stockton. Both clubs came in with identical 3-4 conference marks and tied for the 5-seed in the conference standings. UHSP jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but after registering eight shots in the first quarter the Eutectics offense was held to just seven shots the rest of the way as the Wildcats rallied for a 15-5 triumph.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
CULVER STOCKTON 15, UHSP 5
- Josie Hayden fueled a three-goal run by UHSP as she scored her fourth of the year to get UHSP on the board midway through the first and tie the game at 1-1.
- Melanie Doub (unassisted) and Michaela Crews (Haley Smith) scored just 12 seconds apart only :44 seconds after Hayden's goal as the Eutectics went up 3-1. It was Doub's seventh of the year and Crews' first.
- CSC had a 4-3 halftime lead as Addison Holm had a pair of free position shot goals in the first half.
- Kaelin Quarles had a third period hat trick as the Wildcats outscored UHSP 5-1 in the third.
- Ella Penke had the final two goals for UHSP giving her a team-leading 27 on the year.
- Brianna Dixon faced 21 shots in goal for UHSP and made six saves.
- Jillian Vervynck made eight saves on 13 shots for the Cats.
- Culver-Stockton took advantage of free opportunities as they were 6-of-7 on free position shots. The Eutectics had just three free position shots converting on one.
- CSC outshot UHSP 26-15.

The Heart Conference Tournament is next for the Eutectics (6-8, 3-5 HEART). They will be the 6-seed and visit the 3-Ottawa Braves in the tournament quarterfinals on Saturday. Start time is to be determined. UHSP hosted the Braves back on March 22 and dropped a tight 11-9 decision. The rematch on Saturday determines who will advance and play at 2-Missouri Baptist in the Tournament Semifinals on April 16 in St. Louis.
