Eutectics Earn 12-4 Victory over Warriors

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic women's lacrosse team earned a Heart of America Athletic Conference (HEART) victory over Midland University of Fremont, Neb., at the final home game of the season on a rainy Thursday afternoon at Lou Fusz Athletic Complex. Led by Ella Penke's eight points (five goals and three assists), the Eutectics earned their second victory in the past three seasons over the Midland Warriors (0-7) with the 12-4 win to improve their record to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in the Conference.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Midland's Madi Marusiak put the Vikings in the lead in the first minute with a free position shot, but the Eutectics took advantage of two Viking penalties to put two goals on the board in "man-up" situations with Penke scoring unassisted and Molly Biermann notching a goal (assisted by Penke) with five seconds left in the first quarter that would put the Eutectics in the lead for good.
  • Penke (assisted by Biermann) and Gracie Spicer (assisted by Penke) would mark the board two more times in the second quarter before the Warriors would find the net in the three minutes before halftime to make give the Eutectics a 4-2 lead heading into the second half.
  • It was all UHSP in the third quarter, starting with back-to-back goals from Marisa Podio (free position shot and an unassisted goal), followed by a free position shot by Ella Penke and a goal from Michelle Le (from Penke) to give the Euts a comfortable 8-2 lead.
  • Podio (from Le) and Penke (free position) would each score again to start off the fourth quarter before Marusiak would score another goal for the Warriors on a free position shot with just under eight minutes left in the game to make it 10-3. Midland would find the net once more before Penke (from Biermann) and Podio (free position) would strike again for the Eutectics to account for eight of the Eutectics' 12 total goals.
  • Eutectic goalkeeper Brianna Dixon recorded four saves in the game to earn the win, while Midland's Shelby Tracy fended off six Eutectic shots on goal for the loss.
  • Penke's eight points in the game ties the record she already shares with teammate Caeley Doran for Single Game Points both set last season.
  • Led by Le's five, the Eutectics dominated the draw control 14-4.
