Nine different goal scorers for UHSP as Eutectics down Cavs
BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC – The spring break for the Eutectics women's lacrosse club has been anything but smooth sailing. After enduring a trip-opening 18-3 loss to Marian on Saturday, the UHSP suffered some bus trouble on their way to North Carolina. If that was not enough then it was traffic issues on their way to Montreat that forced a later than scheduled start between the Eutectics and the Cavaliers. Once things got underway in the Tar Heel State, the Purple and Gold took out a little frustration sprinted to a 5-0 lead, scored five of the next seven and went on to rout the Cavs 16-6.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- UHSP had four different goal scorers in a four-goal first quarter. Ella Penke, Payton Burke, Gracie Spicer and Michelle Le all put one past MC netminder, Tayah Quinn. The Eutectics scored on four of their ten shots in the quarter.
- Penke made it 5-0 with a goal just 1:58 into the second as Penke had two goals and two assists in the opening five goals.
- Ruthann Stout scored her fourth goal of the season to get Montreat on the board.
- Grace Wiegand scored the first of her four goals of the game on a free position shot just a minute after Stout's goal to make it 5-2. Wiegand now has a team-leading 22 goals on the year.
- Molly Biermann got to work to bookend the half with a goal on either side of intermission and an assist on a Melanie Doub goal. Le and Marisa Podio would also score to cap another 5-0 run by the Eutectics.
- It was an eventful third quarter as the two teams combined to score 12 goals. Josie Hayden, Doub, Nadiya Delvois, Biermann and Podio all scored later in the third as UHSP led 15-6 after three.
- Payton Burke scored unassisted 3:24 into the fourth, the only tally of the final quarter.
- The 16 goals are the fourth-most ever scored in a game by the Eutectics in their history.
- Brianna Dixon stopped better than half the 13 shots she faced as she made seven saves in net for UHSP.
- Quinn made ten saves while getting peppered with 26 shots in goal for the Cavaliers.
- Montreat had 40 turnovers in the game while UHSP had 29.
- The Eutectics were successful on 72% of their clear attempts while the Cavs converted on just 38%.
UP NEXT:
The Eutectics (2-4, 0-2 HEART) have one more stop on their three-game spring break trip. UHSP begins the trek back to St. Louis and makes a stop in the Bluegrass State to face Georgetown (KY) at 4:00p. After that the Eutectics are back on their home field, sort of, on Saturday when the Ottawa Braves come to town. That game was supposed to be played at the Creve Coeur Soccer Park, but the facility suffered some damage from the storms that rolled through St. Louis on Friday night. There is no current determined site for where UHSP and Ottawa will play on Saturday.
