Eutectics Win First KCAC Game

Eutectics Win First KCAC Game

With every game played this season, it seems the Eutectic women's lacrosse team makes a new mark on UHSP program history. This time it was the first Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) victory for the Eutectic program, as the UHSP team knocked off Midland University (0-2) on Sunday in Fremont, Nebraska, 5-4.

The Eutectics came out strong, netting two goals in the opening quarter. First it was Qiu Ottolino assisted by Ella Penke at 12:00 to mark the board for UHSP. Then, with 5:12 left in the period, Michelle Le scored on a free position shot to take a 2-0 lead for the Eutectics.

In the first minute of the second quarter, Midland's Ryland Nelson took a pass from Madigan Marusiak to score the first Warrior goal and narrow their deficit to one. Caeley Doran knocked in an unassisted goal at 8:16 to reinforce the Eutectic lead, but the home team's Chloe Harrison answered back quickly with her own goal, assisted by Hallie Gehring at 7:47. With 2:50 left on the clock before halftime and the Eutectics up a player, Le notched her second goal of the day off an assist from Penke to give the Euts a 4-2 lead at intermission.

Midland charged back to tie the game at 4-4 in the third quarter after an unassisted goal by Madilynn Edwards at 14:23 set up the tying goal by Shay Peterson (from Jewell Milliman) at 9:08. It was Doran who would score the game-winning goal for the Eutectics off an assist from Haley Smith with 8:04 left in the third quarter.

Despite numerous shots by both teams, there was no scoring in the fourth quarter. Eutectic goalkeeper Brianna Dixon picked up three ground balls and three saves to hold off a tying goal from Midland and secure the win for UHSP.

The Eutectic offense pressured the Warriors throughout the game, outshooting them 28-19. Dixon had a stellar day at the net for the Eutectics, finishing with nine saves, a caused turnover, and seven ground balls to protect the UHSP net and fasten down the Eutectic win.

The Eutectics are now 3-1 on the season so far – another UHSP program record to go with their first-ever Conference win (now 1-0 in the KCAC).

The Purple and Gold will return to their home field at Creve Coeur Soccer Complex #12 on Wednesday, March 6, for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference matchup with William Penn University (Iowa)(0-1).
