UHSP Moves to 2-0 After Record-Setting Win Over Mount Mercy
The Eutectic women's lacrosse team remains undefeated after a 20-1 victory today in St. Louis over Mount Mercy University. The 20 goals is the most scored in a single game by the Eutectics since the program's inception in 2022-23. The win puts the Eutectic record at 2-0 for the season so far.
The Eutectics wasted no time teaching the inaugural Mount Mercy Mustang team a lesson, with Caeley Doran scoring the first goal within the first minute of play. In fact, the Eutectics dominated possession in the first quarter, thanks in part to Michelle Le's perfect draw control. The Eutectics scored three goals in less than three minutes, then added another four before the second quarter.
The Eutectic attackers continued their barrage of shots in the second quarter, picking up another four goals. The Mustangs finally got their first shot five minutes into the second quarter, but UHSP goalkeeper Brianna Dixon made the save to maintain a UHSP shutout through halftime with a score of 11-0.
The Eutectics' Doran and Payton Burke put in two more goals before the Mustang's Brooke Caffrey's ground ball pickup led to the program's first-ever goal at 7:05 in the third quarter. The Purple and Gold got right back to business immediately following the MMU goal, scoring two more before the end of the third quarter to make it 15-1 heading into the final period.
The Eutectics continued to control possession in the fourth quarter, scoring another five goals before time ran out to win by a score of 20-1.
The Purple and Gold outshot the Mustangs 36-3 in the game, winning 19 of 24 draw controls. Caeley Doran led the Euts with five goals, tying teammate Ella Penke's school record for goals in a game set in the team's first game of the season. Penke scored four goals against the Mustangs, while other UHSP goals came from Melanie Doub (2), Lindsay Wallace (2), Molly Bierman, Payton Burke, Michelle Le, Haley Smith, Mandy Xa, Kayle Nguyen, and Michaela Crews. Penke also picked up four assists to lead the team with eight points. Michelle Le commanded the draws, winning 12 for the Eutectics, while also picking up three ground balls.
Brianna Dixon earned the win at goal, making one save. MMU's Amelia Frimml made six saves to take the loss.
The Eutectics are back in action tomorrow, travelling to Canton, Mo., to take on Culver-Stockton College (1-1) at 1 p.m.
