Eutectics Compete at MBU Invitational

ALTON, ILL. – The Eutectic men's and womens' golf teams competed in the MBU Invitational hosted by Missouri Baptist University at Spencer T. Olin golf course in Alton, Ill., on Monday and Tuesday. The women's team beat out all American Midwest Conference (AMC) teams participating, including host MBU, to finish fourth of seven. The UHSP men finished ahead of Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.) and Crowley's Ridge College (Ark.), both AMC teams, to finish 12th of 15.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:

4th of 7

  • Consistency was the key for Samantha Kasting, who led the Eutectics with an 11th-place finish overall (of 36). She scored an 88 on both days on the par-72 course, with a birdie on a par four on Day 2.
  • Ella Penke was 14thoverall, earning two birdies on Day 2 to finish 34 over par for the two-day tournament.
  • Addison Sullivan and Zoe Lopez rounded out the scoring for the Eutectics in 24th and 31st places, while Grace Wilkinson was 32nd overall.
  • The Eutectics defeated host Missouri Baptist by 31 strokes over the two days, also defeating Central Baptist College (Ark.) and Williams Baptist University (Ark.). The winning team was Bethel University (Tenn.) who finished at +89.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:

12th of 15

  • Connor Kosola led the men's team with a Day-2 improvement of seven strokes to finish in a 6-way tie for 44th place of 79 golfers. After finishing Day 1 with an 89, Kosola returned on Day 2 to score an 82, including a birdie on a par 5, moving up 12 spots in the final rankings.
  • Will Turner was among four golfers to tie for 50th place, improving his Day 1 stroke count of +15 to a +14 on Day 2.
  • Brett Bushue finished tied for 56th, scoring and 85 and a 90, while Abe Neal rounded out the Eutectic scoring with a 61st-place tied finish with a 91 and 88. Alex Chandler and Cooper Thomas also competed for the Eutectics.
  • While the Eutectics finished behind four participating AMC teams, including host MBU who had the highest finish in third, the Euts were able to beat out two other AMC teams: Hannibal-LaGrange (13th) and Crowley's Ridge (15th). Bethel University (Tenn.) also won the men's division, finishing at +29.

NEXT UP:

The Eutectics' next competition will be the AMC Championships at Cooper's Hawk Golf Course in Melbourne, Ark. The women's championships will take place in two weeks on April 28-29, and the men will compete the following week on May 5-6. It will be the first-ever UHSP team appearance at the Conference championship.
