ST. LOUIS, MO – Mallory Shetley poured in 32 points along with seven rebounds and both Lexi Miller and Mya Miller added 16 points as Columbia held off UHSP 97-73. In a contest that was tight at the half, Columbia outscored the Eutectics 54-35 in the second half to seal their 22nd win of the year. The Cougars sweep the season series against UHSP and have now won six straight head to head.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Eutectics did a tremendous job of resurrecting some early shooting struggles. At one point, UHSP was shooting 28% to Columbia's 58% as the Cougars were 10-of-16 from the floor in the first quarter. UHSP at one stretch went scoreless for 4:37 missing seven straight field goal attempts.
- UHSP outscored CC 21-19 in the second quarter going 9-for-19 from the field and hitting on half of their six threes.
- The first half featured two ties and seven lead changes with Columbia leading at the break, 43-38.
- The Cougars converted on 13 of 19 field goals in the third quarter (68.4%) while UHSP was 4-for-14 (28.6%).
- Karsyn Morgan led the way for the Eutectics with 17 points. She had three rebounds and five steals.
- Reece Halley and Arianna Buduan added 14 points apiece for UHSP.
- Columbia made better than half their field goals for the game as they were 39-for-69 (56.5%) to 29-of-73 for the Eutectics (39.7%).
- The game featured just 18 total free throws with the teams combining to make 15.
- With 1:38 to go in the game, Karsyn Morgan went down with a left knee injury. She was on crutches after the game.
- The Cougars improve to 22-1 against the Eutectics dating back to 1999.
UP NEXT:
The Eutectics (6-18, 6-12 AMC) were slated for a Thursday road trip to Cottey, but pending weather has forced the postponement of that game. UHSP will instead play the Comets on Feb. 18. UHSP will host Mission (17-5, 14-4 AMC) on Saturday in their final home game of the season and then finish with three straight on the road. After the contest with Cottey, they will visit Stephens on Feb. 20 and then wrap up the season at Harris-Stowe on Feb. 22.
