Cougars Remain Undefeated after Matchup with Eutectics

COLUMBIA, MO. – The Eutectic women's basketball team travelled to Columbia, Mo., on Monday afternoon to play a rescheduled American Midwest Conference (AMC) contest against the Columbia College Cougars. The Cougars, who boast a 17-0 record so far this season (11-0, AMC), maintained their undefeated status with a 99-60 victory over the Eutectics.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Cougars held the Eutectics scoreless for nearly five minutes to go up 15-0 before Alina Bowden made two free throws to mark the board for the Eutectics. UHSP put up 10 more points in the next five minutes, but the home team led 34-12 after the first quarter.
  • Arianna Buduan dropped in her second and third three-point field goals of the game in the second quarter, while also pulling down four rebounds. She led the Eutectics to an 18-point tally in the period as they held the Cougars to 24 points.
  • Karsyn Morgan scored six of UHSP's 12 points in the third quarter, going 2-for-3 from the arc, as Jada Griggs nabbed three rebounds.
  • The Eutectics outscored Columbia 18-16 in the final quarter. Reece Halley was a perfect 2-for-2 from the floor and from the free throw line.
  • The Purple and Gold showed a marked improvement from the charity stripe, finishing the game with 80% success at the line (12-15) as Columbia was 68.4% (13-19). The teams were even with 13 turnovers apiece, but Columbia dominated the boards at 56-29 and posted an impressive 52.1% field goal percentage.
  • Karsyn Morgan was the only Eutectic to break into double digits with 15 total points. Nine other Eutectics scored, including: Reece Halley (9), Arianna Buduan (9), Rylee Hipp (5), Kailana Reed (4), Alina Bowden (4), Jada Griggs (4), Eva Parks (4), Montasia McAllister (3), and Sara Hameed (3). Buduan led in rebounds with five, and Halley recorded two blocks.
  • Columbia's Mallory Shetley led all scorers with 20 points.

UP NEXT:

The loss puts the Eutectics at 2-15 overall and 2-9 in the Conference as they prepare to host two Arkansas teams for AMC matchups this week. The UHSP team is looking to repeat its November victory over the Crowley's Ridge College Pioneers (8-8, 2-8 AMC) on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, the Central Baptist College Mustangs (7-8, 5-6 AMC) will come to town for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
