
Comets Soar Past Eutectics in Final Quarter
ST. LOUIS, MO. - Despite an early lead, the Eutectic women's basketball team dropped its first matchup of 2025 in a 75-56 loss to American Midwest Conference (AMC) foe Cottey College (Mo.) on Thursday night in St. Louis. After the Eutectics opened the game with a 22-16 lead, the Comets gained momentum in the second quarter to take a narrow lead at the half (35-32). After a close third quarter, the Comets (9-4, 5-2 AMC) surged ahead in the final 10 minutes for the win.
- The Eutectics shot 64.3% (9-for-14) from the floor in the first quarter, while holding the Comets to 27.3% to take an early lead, despite being outrebounded by Cottey 12-6.
- The Eutectics crashed the boards in the second quarter for 10 rebounds to the Comets' eight, but could not find the net, making only 5-of-15 attempts. The Comets made 8-of-10 free throws in the period to outscore the Euts 19-10 and claim a 35-32 lead going into the second half.
- After a close third quarter, the Comets scored the first eight points of the final quarter, using height under the basket to charge beyond reach of the Eutectics, scoring the first eight points of the fourth quarter and never looking back.
- The Eutectics finished the game with a respectable 42.6% field goal percentage (Cottey was 37.9%), but gave up 21 turnovers to Cottey's 11 and went 4-for-14 from the free throw line.
- Three UHSP players scored 11 points each: Sara Hameed, Reece Halley, and Alina Bowden. Bowden also led the team rebounds with seven.
Now 2-11 overall and 2-5 in the AMC, the Eutectic team will travel to Springfield, Mo., this weekend for its first matchup with the AMC newcomer Mission University Patriots (8-3, 5-2 AMC) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
