
AMC-Leader MBU Sweeps UHSP
ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic softball team travelled across the metropolitan area on Friday afternoon to take on the Missouri Baptist University Spartans (38-6, 20-2 AMC) for an American Midwest Conference (AMC) doubleheader. The Spartans won both games, 4-2 and 5-1, launching themselves into the top position in the Conference.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
MBU def. UHSP 4-2
- The Spartans scored one run in the bottom of the first off two hits and an error.
- After holding MBU for two innings, the Eutectics took the lead in the top of the fourth when hits from Hunter Noto, Hallie Roper, Alicia Kimble, and Mackenzie Nelson each singled, along with a passed ball, pushed Noto and Kimble across home plate.
- The Spartans returned in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead at 3-1, scoring two runs off a walk, a double and a single.
- The home team would score the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, when Miranda Ladson hit a home run, to make it 4-2.
- The Eutectic pitching squad gave up seven hits in the game. Emma Henley pitched the first three inning for the Eutectics and Karlea Frey took the loss after one inning on the mound. Lexi Knoll and Eva Kameoka also each pitched one inning. MBU's Brooklyn Fischer pitched all seven innings, striking out eight, while allowing one walk, five hits, and two earned runs.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
MBU def. UHSP 5-1
- Miranda Ladson kicked off the scoring in Game 2 with another home run in the second inning.
- Kailey Samora led off the fourth inning with a triple, but the Euts were unable to send her home.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the MBU batters scored four runs on three hits and an error to go up 5-0.
- The Eutectics avoided the shutout with one run in the top of the seventh. Kendal Strozier pinch ran after Roper singled, then was hit home when Kimble doubled down the left field line.
- Trysten Murphy pitched the first three innings for UHSP, suffering the loss with one hit and one earned run. Karsyn Black, Nelson, and Talianna Joyner also spent time on the mound for the Eutectics. Taylor Whitehead picked up the win for MBU, striking out four and allowing four hits and one earned run.
UP NEXT:
Now 11-25 overall and 4-16 in the Conference, the Eutectics will host their final AMC series against Hannibal-LaGrange. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed to Tuesday, April 22 at 1 p.m./3 p.m., due to the forecasted rain over the weekend.
