
Lady Luck not on Eutectics side as they drop a pair when tied late in both
ST. LOUIS MO – It was two competitive games but Williams Baptist managed to sweep a Monday doubleheader from the Eutectics. Both games were tied in the seventh but it was the Eagles who did enough to find a way to win. In game one, UHSP battled back from an early 6-0 hole and eventually clawed back to take a 7-6 lead. But a go-ahead run in the seventh gave WBU an 8-7 win. In game two, it was the Eutectics that managed to tie the game in the seventh as Hallie Roper tied the game at 3-3 with an RBI single to score Kailey Samora. But in the eighth, Williams Baptist removed all doubt scoring ten runs on nine hits as they ended up with a 13-3, 8-inning victory.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
WILLIAMS BAPTIST 8, UHSP 7
- McKenna Bittle (4-0) got the win for WBU in relief. She tossed three shutout innings allowing only two hits. She did walk four and her only strikeout was against Payton Reinbott to end the game.
- Emma Henley was knocked around early as the Eagles scored three in each of the first two innings. WBU got to Henley right off the bat as the first two batters of the game singled and Madyson Busselle drilled a three-run homer to left center for a 3-0 lead. Busselle went 3-for-4 and had 4 RBI.
- Hunter Noto was 2-for-3 in the game and drove in a run in the two-run third singling home Reinbott to make it 6-2. She also had a two-RBI single in the fourth that tied the game at 6-6.
- Alicia Kimble went 2-for-4 and put the Eutectics ahead in the fourth with a single to center to score Hunter Noto. UHSP scored five runs on five hits in the inning.
- The top three in the Eutectics lineup of Kailey Samora, Noto and Kimble had half of the club's ten hits in the game.
- The Eutectics managed to score seven runs off of Emberlin Caldwell, the reigning AMC Freshman of the Year last season. She entered this game with a 2.02 ERA. The Eutectics chased her after the 5-run fourth inning. Five of the seven runs for Caldwell were earned. She allowed eight hits, walked one and struck out three.
- The Eagles won despite committing three errors in the game.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
WILLIAMS BAPTIST 13, UHSP 3 (8 INNINGS)
- The Eutectics loaded the bases in the first on three singles and took a 1-0 lead when Makenzie Ness walked to drive in a run. Hunter Noto made it 2-0 with a second inning RBI single.
- Madyson Busselle was a problem for Eutectic pitchers as she went a combined 5-for-8 on the day including a double, triple and homerun. She led off the WBU fourth with a double and scored on a Breann Thresher triple. In the fifth, Busselle reached on an error on a play that saw the Eagles take a 3-2 lead.
- WBU exploded in the eighth as they sent 14 batters to the plate with the first nine reached.
- Trysten Murphy (1-3) endured most of the damage in the circle pitching into the eighth but giving up ten runs, nine earned on 13 hits, a walk and two strikeouts
- Morgan Garner (10-3) went all eight for the Eagles scattering nine hits and a walk as UHSP scored two earned runs against her. She struck out three.
- That trio atop the UHSP lineup (Samora-Noto-Roper in game two) combined to go 6-for-10 and account for all but three of UHSP's hits. Lexi Knoll went 2-for-4.
- Williams Baptist is now 21-2 all-time against UHSP.
UP NEXT:
The Eutectics (8-18, 3-9 AMC) turn around and play another home doubleheader on Wednesday, but back on their traditional home diamond. The Ecclesia Royals (7-19) come to St. Louis to meet the Eutectics for a 2:00p start at the Affton Athletic Association. Ecclesia dropped a pair to Mission on Tuesday as they were playing their first games since March 18.
