Cougars Down Eutectics in Columbia

COLUMBIA, MO. – The Eutectic softball team travelled to Columbia on Saturday to take on the Columbia College Cougars in an American Midwest Conference (AMC) doubleheader. The Cougars remain undefeated in the AMC after holding the Eutectics scoreless on the day to pick up two more Conference wins (4-0) as the Eutectics drop to 2-2.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:

CC – 7, UHSP - 0    

  • The Cougars capitalized on big innings in the fifth and sixth to pull away. The Eutectics managed just three hits in the contest and were unable to generate any offensive momentum.
  • The game remained scoreless through four innings before Columbia broke through in the fifth. A two-run homer from C. Avery put the Cougars ahead, followed by an error that allowed another run to score, making it 3-0.
  • Columbia struck again in the sixth, scoring four more runs. K. Schanuth doubled to right center to bring in one, and an error by shortstop allowed two more to cross the plate. E. Klietherm capped off the inning with a two-run double, pushing the lead to 7-0.
  • UHSP struggled offensively, managing only three hits and leaving multiple runners stranded. Kailey Samora, Hallie Roper, and Alicia Kimble each had hits for the Eutectics.  
  • Errors proved costly for UHSP, contributing to multiple unearned runs for the Cougars.
  • The Eutectics' pitching staff recorded six strikeouts but couldn't contain the Cougars' bats.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:

CC – 8, UHSP – 0 (6 innings)

  • Columbia capitalized on key opportunities in the third, fourth, and sixth innings to secure the win.
  • The Eutectics managed just three hits in the contest, struggling to generate offense against the Cougars pitching staff.
  • The Cougars broke the scoreless tie in the third inning when W. Wijk drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, followed by an RBI single from S. Angel to make it 2-0.
  • In the fourth frame, the Cougars extended their lead as a passed ball allowed C. Avery to score before a groundout by M. Wear plated another run, increasing the deficit to 4-0.
  • Columbia put the game out of reach in the sixth, scoring four more times. A fielder's choice, an RBI single from K. Schanuth, and a two-run single from R. Schneider helped the Cougars push their lead to 8-0, sealing the shutout victory in six innings.
  • Makenzie Ness, Alicia Kimble, and Trysten Murphy each had hits for the Eutectics.

The Eutectics (6-10, 2-2) will continue with AMC competition on Sunday, taking on another top-ranked AMC team, the Missouri Baptist University Spartans, at the Spartan home field at 1:00 P.M. and 3:00 P.M.
