The Eutectics Softball team opened up American Midwest Conference play today, hosting the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets (1-11, 0-2 AMC). The Hornets jumped out in front in both games, scoring in the opening inning in each, but the Eutectics' pitching and defense held them scoreless the remaining eight innings between both games. On top of tough defense, the Euts' bats made a statement today, leading them to 17-2 and 26-1 wins.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
UHSP 17, HSSU 2
- The Hornets took a quick 2-0 lead to start game one.
- The Euts bunted their way on and into scoring position for Hallie Roper's double to tie the game at two.
- The Eutectics had twelve hits in the first inning, batting through the lineup more than twice to take a 15-2 lead
- They extended their lead in the fourth with RBIs from Eva Kameoka and Abbie Morgan.
- Payton Reinbott led UHSP with three hits, Payton McClellan led with three runs and three RBIs and Kameoka also had three RBIs.
- The Eutectic pitchers were strong. Emma Henley struck out three and picked up the win. Karlea Frey and Tristen Murphy came in at relief and struck out three and two, respectively.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
UHSP 26, HSSU 1
- Harris-Stowe struck first again in game two.
- The Eutectics answered back with 19 runs in their half of the inning. They had 14 hits, including three off the bat of Hallie Roper. Roper went four for four and drove in six runs.
- Hannah Duggan and Aubrey Lasek led the team with four runs scored apiece.
- Talianna Joyner got the win, striking out six of the nine batters she faced. Eva Kameoka came in relief, striking out three of the six batters she faced, and Brianna Rowland closed it out for the Euts.
The Eutectics are now 6-4 on the season and 2-0 in the AMC. They are back at on Saturday as they host Haskell Indian Nations at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm at Affton Athletic Association.
