Tough Day for Eutectics’ Defense as They Drop Two to Wildcats
The Eutectics hosted the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats (3-14) today. After coming off two solid victories yesterday and a win last week, the Euts were looking to extend their 3-game streak. UHSP continued their strong offense, outhitting their opponents 14-9. However, it was a tough day for the defense, who committed eight errors. The Wildcats came out on top in both games 5-3 and 7-4.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
CSC 5, UHSP 3
- The Eutectics scored first in the first inning when Alicia Kimble's two-out single drove in Hunter Noto, who had reached base on a single of her own.
- The Wildcats answered with consecutive two-run innings in the second and third to take a 4-1 lead.
- The Euts were held to one run until the fifth inning when a couple of walks and a Hallie Roper single scored two and made it a one-run game.
- The Wildcats tallied one more in the sixth and held the Euts scoreless in the sixth and seventh to take the 5-3 win.
- Emma Henley pitched a complete game, her second in as many days, allowing 4 earned runs on 4 hits, while not walking a single batter.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
CSC 7, UHSP 4
- CSC struck first on the board, but not until the third inning when they drove in two unearned runs to take the lead.
- The Purple and Gold answered in the bottom half of the third. Kailey Samora earned a lead-off walk and then advanced to second and third on consecutive passed balls. Hunter Noto drove her in with a single to right field. Noto then scored off a double from the bat of Alicia Kimble.
- The Wildcats added 3 more runs over the fourth and fifth innings, which were also unearned.
- The Euts were not going away quietly, however, as they added two more runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to one. Lexie Knoll led off the inning with a single. Kendal Strozier came into pinch run, and stole second to get into scoring position just in time for Alicia Kimble to drive her in. Makenzie Ness joined the fun, knocking in Kimble on a single up the middle.
- The Wildcats added two more insurance runs in the seventh and held the Euts to four, who left two on base in the final inning.
- Talianna Joyner pitched a complete game. Though she gave up seven runs on just five hits, all were unearned, as the UHSP defense recorded 5 errors in the game. Joyner also struck out six.
The Eutectics are now 4-4 on the season. They open up American Midwest Conference play on Wednesday when they host the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets (1-9) at 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm at Affton Athletic Association.
