Firehawks sweep Sunday doubleheader from Eutectics

Pulaski, TN – The Eutectics finished out their season-opening weekend by dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Tennessee Southern. UHSP went 0-4 for the weekend which began by falling in a Saturday twin bill to Bethel. It was a tough weekend offensively for the Eutectics as they combined for three runs on 14 hits over the course of the four games.

In the opening game on Sunday against the Firehawks, the home club got right to work scoring three in the first against Eutectic starter Emma Henley. Allie Toone extended the UTS lead in the second with and RBI infield hit. The Hawks made it 5-0 in the third when Stella Gilbreath homered to left. UHSP got their lone run in the fourth when Payton Reinbott singled to center, scoring Lexi Knoll. Tennessee Southern capped the scoring when they hung another three-spot on the board in their half of the fourth on run scoring hits by Hayley Parrott and Toone and a Eutectic error that allowed the final run in an 8-1 win for the Firehawks.

Tennessee Southern starter Jayci Boozer (2-0) got the win in the circle going six strong innings allowing an unearned run while scattering four hits. She fanned seven and walked one. Henley took the loss and was not as effective as she was in her first outing of the season on Saturday against Bethel when she allowed only one run on two hits over six frames. It was a different story against the Hawks as she only lasted three-and-a-third innings getting rocked for eight runs, four earned on ten hits while striking out one. Reinbott finished it out in the circle for the Purple and Gold giving up one hit over two-and-two-thirds scoreless innings while walking and fanning a pair.

The second game of the double-dip saw the Firehawks put up a seven-spot in the bottom of the first. UTS had three doubles and triple in the inning. Tennessee Southern added two more in the third and fourth and went on to win 11-1. The only Eutectic run came in the top of the fifth when Lexi Knoll doubled to center scoring Kailey Samora. Knoll suffered the loss as she endured four innings allowing 11 runs, ten earned on 13 hits. UTS starter Macey Ciramella went three shutout inning scattering four hits while fanning two. Bailey Abernathy came on and gave up the lone UHSP run on two hits over two innings.

The Eutectics (0-4) will try to generate more offense in their next outing next Saturday when the visit Missouri Valley for another doubleheader. First pitch for game one against the Vikings is at 1:00pm.
