Cross Country Kicks Off 2024 Season at SEMO Invite

The UHSP teams did not enter a full team to score in either the men's or women's races. Three individual UHSP runners finished in the two 5K races that included five NCAA Division I teams.

Competing in his first collegiate cross country race, sophomore Jack Wolfe, a goalkeeper for the Eutectic men's soccer team who began running for the UHSP track team in the spring, was the lone entry for the Eutectics in the 5K men's race. He finished with a time of 19:33 in 65th place, sandwiched between two Missouri Baptist University runners, of 72 finishers to earn his first cross country 5K mark.

In the 5K women's race that followed, junior Abby Baxter and freshman Layla Aguilar finished in 60th and 90th places, respectively, of 92 runners. Baxter's time of 21:25 is over a minute faster than her previous personal best set back in November of 2022. Like Wolfe, she also finished between two MBU runners. Newcomer Aguilar earned her first collegiate race time at 27:52.

The Eutectics will be back in action in a few weeks when they travel to Columbia, Mo., for the Larry Young Invite hosted by Columbia College on Friday, Sept. 20.
