Eutectics Claim First Victory over Braves

OTTAWA, KAN. – After dropping the first set 25-19, the Eutectic men's volleyball team came back to win the next three sets 27-25, 25-21, 25-19 to earn their first program victory over Ottawa University (15-11, 9-9 HEART) and split this season's home-and-home series with the Braves in Heart of America Athletic Conference (HEART) action on Friday night.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Eutectics saw the first set slip from their hands late, as the Braves averaged .235 attacking percentage to the Eutectics' .056. But, the Purple and Gold returned to fight for the final extra-points and secure the win in the second set to even the match score. They then used that momentum to hit over .320 in the last two sets and confidently secure their first-ever victory over the Braves.  
  • In the end, the two teams' stats were close in every category, but the Eutectics were able to dig up seven more attacks than the Braves and recorded five aces to the Braves' one.
  • Grant Hoover collected 22 kills on 55 attempts, while both Cameron Werner and Dickson Colado each tallied 10 kills apiece, with Werner hitting at .476 without a single error.
  • Hoover also contributed on defense with 11 digs and five blocks, including three solo blocks.
  • Libero Xavier Gamayo picked up 16 digs, setter RJ Dilks had 49 assists, and Hoover and Zacchery Zrebiec each had two service aces.

The Eutectics, now 12-16 overall with a record of 5-12 in the HEART, will finish out the season on the road with a final Conference matchup on Saturday at Graceland University (2-22, 0-17 HEART) in Lamoni, Iowa, at 1 p.m.
