GREENVILLE, ILL. – The Eutectic men's volleyball team travelled to Greenville, Ill., on Saturday afternoon to compete in a tri-match hosted by Greenville University and including Franklin College (Ind.). The UHSP team wasted no time knocking down both straight-set wins over the NCAA Division III teams to break a six-match dry spell for the Eutectics and put them into double digits for season wins, now at 11.
MATCH 1 HIGHLIGHTS:
UHSP def. Franklin 25-13, 25-16, 25-21
- The Eutectics averaged a season-high .361 kill percentage for the match, led by .444 and .417 averages from David Quinones (5-for-9 with 1 error) and Preston Coburn (6-for-12 with 1 error).
- Xander Quenzer and Demetrius Allen each knocked down two solo blocks and contributed five and four block assists, respectively, of team's 14 total.
- Allen also tallied 26 assists in the match. Jackson Brincks recorded two service aces for the Eutectics
- It was the first time UHSP had played against the first-year Franklin program (2-8).
MATCH 2 HIGHLIGHTS:
UHSP def. Greenville 25-19, 25-20, 25-20
- Grant Hoover notched a double double with 12 kills and 10 digs in the match. He led the Eutectics with 12 kills on 23 swings for an average of .435 for attacking. He also recorded two block assists, a solo block, and a service ace.
- Quenzer notched a .500 attacking average with success on three of his four attacks. As a team, the Eutectics hit at .247, while holding the Panthers to .036.
- RJ Dilks picked up 30 assists in the match.
NEXT UP:
Saturday's two wins puts the Eutectic record at 11-16 overall with two Heart of America Athletic Conference (HEART) matches left in the season and a Conference record of 5-12. The Eutectics will next travel to Ottawa, Kan., for a Friday HEART matchup with the Ottawa University Braves. The Eutectics look to upset the 14-10 Braves, who currently boast a HEART record of 8-8 and defeated the Eutectics 3-1 back in February in St. Louis. The match will kick off at 7 p.m. on April 4.
