Eutectics play another nationally ranked club tough, but fall to Vikings in 4

ST. LOUIS, MO – Life is always tough in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. That was the case again on Friday night as the 6-Grand View Vikings needed four sets to knock off the Eutectics, 25-19, 16-25, 25-23, 25-14. It was a competitive contest through three sets with the Eutectics owning an attacking percentage well over .300 for the night. That changed in the final set as UHSP just could not keep up with the Vikings. UHSP had eight kills but eight errors in the fourth while GVU racked up 15 kills to three errors in the fourth to walk out of St. Louis with the win.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

GRAND VIEW DEF. UHSP; 25-19, 16-25, 25-23, 25-14

  • The Eutectics came out hot in the first taking five of the first six points. Cameron Werner, Dickson Colado and Grant Hoover had kills as the UHSP offense was rolling early. Zach Gavrick set up Hansen to put the home club up 9-6 before Grand View took ten of the ensuing 12 to grab a 16-11 advantage. That forced UHSP to play catch-up the rest of the set and they could never get closer than three.
  • The second was tied four times through eight points until UHSP put seven of the next nine in their column to lead 11-6. The Purple and Gold never trailed in the set. The Eutectics took advantage of a match-high nine hitting errors by the Vikings to even the match at one set apiece. Werner and Colado had kills down the stretch and GVU had three errors as UHSP took five of the final six points.
  • The third was tied four times in the first dozen points, lastly at 6-6. Grand View built a 19-15 lead, but the Eutectics fought back to eventually tie it at 21-all with Hoover and RJ Dilks having key kills in a 7-2 Eutectic run.
  • In the fourth, it was tight early until the Eutectic ran out of fuel. A 4-1 stretch with a trio of GVU errors and a Hansen cut the Vikings lead to one at 11-10. UHSP only scored four the rest of the way as Grand View took six of the final seven points.
