UHSP Stellar Offense Leads to Straight-Set Victory over Clarke

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic men's volleyball team won in straight sets at home to earn its fourth victory over the Clarke University Pride from Dubuque, Iowa, in their last four meetings. The UHSP team notched 41 kills over the three sets, hitting at 32.2% - the highest attacking percentage of the season so far for the team. It was the second Heart of America Athletic Conference (HEART) win for the Eutectics this season (2-7), dropping the Pride to 1-8.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Grant Hoover seemed unstoppable on offense, pounding down 20 kills on 35 attempts for 45.7 attacking percentage. But, the entire Eutectic offense found success against the Pride, as setter RJ Dilks also set up Dickson Colado (7 kills on 13 att.), Cameron Werner (4 kills on 9 att.), and Xander Quenzer (3 kills on 4 att.) for big numbers.
  • Dilks had a busy night, pushing up 34 assists, while also leading the team in digs with 11. Werner notched five blocks, including two solo blocks, contributing to the Pride's dismal 4.2% success on attacks.
  • The Eutectics got ahead early and held the lead throughout Sets 1 and 2, with attacking percentage in the 20s, while holding the Pride, who struggled with errors, to less than 10%. UHSP sailed to a 25-18 first-set win. Then followed that up with a 25-19 victory in Set 2.
  • The Pride regrouped at the start of the third set, committing fewer errors to put the pressure on the Eutectics and take an 11-9 lead. After notching a kill for UHSP, Cameron Werner stepped up to the service line and served up four in a row, starting a 10-3 scoring run by the Eutectics, punctuated by a Quenzer kill (from Dilks) to give the Purple and Gold a 19-12 advantage and a grasp on the momentum they refused to release. Despite their best efforts, Clarke's 13.2% attacking in the final set paled in comparison to the Eutectics' impressive 51.7%. The final point of the match came from a kill by Aidan VanCleef (assisted by Demitrius Allen) to seal the straight-set victory with a 25-16 third-set score.
