
Men’s Volleyball Forces Extra Points in Set One but Falls to #5 Pirates
The Eutectics Men's Volleyball team traveled to Parkville, Mo. tonight for another Heart of America contest, this time against the 5th-ranked Park University Pirates (10-2, 5-1). Despite challenging the Pirates in a tough 29-27 first-set duel, the Eutectics could not match that offense in sets two and three, and the Pirates took the next two sets more easily 25-19, 25-18.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- There were 22 ties and 8 lead changes in set one, but down by one, the Pirates managed the final three points to take the 29-27 victory.
- The Pirates never gave up the lead in set two, but there were eight ties and four lead changes in set three.
- Grant Hoover led the Eutectics in kills for the 7th time this season with nine, hitting a season-high 38.9%. He also led the team with four blocks.
- The Pirates served out 19 times in the match and aced the Euts seven times, while the Eutectics served out just six times and aced Park once.
- Leonard Maldonado and Veljko Stojic led the Pirates with 13 kills apiece. Nicolas Tenius played flawless volleyball, putting away 9 kills on 12 attempts with zero errors for an impressive 75% attacking percentage.
- Despite hitting 30.3% in set one, UHSP was held to 7.7% and 5.9% in sets two and three and 17.1% for the match, while the Pirates hit 37% for the match.
The young Eutectics team falls to 3-8 on the season and 1-6 in the Heart of America. Tomorrow, they take on Missouri Valley (6-2, 2-2) in Marshall, Mo. at 1:00 pm. The Euts are looking for their first win against the Vikings who have come out on top in their last nine meetings.
