Bushue Named AMC Field Athlete of the Week
The American Midwest Conference (AMC) has announced UHSP Track & Field freshman Brett Bushue as the first Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week of the season for the week of Mar. 10-16.
Bushue sailed to a new UHSP record in the men's pole vault in his first outdoor collegiate meet on Saturday to set the standard for AMC vaulters this season. His mark of 3.95m (12'11.50") was nearly a foot higher than the previous UHSP record set by teammate Brock Beins last season and currently leads the AMC. His performance was good enough for third place of 11 pole vaulters competing at the Central Methodist Open on Saturday in Fayette, Mo.
Bushue also became the third-best high jumper in UHSP history on Saturday with his leap of 1.76m (5'09.25") to finish 12th (of 17) at the CMU Open.
The freshman had already made his mark on the UHSP record books during the indoor season, establishing a new school record in the Indoor Pole Vault (also at 3.95m), and becoming the second-highest indoor high jumper in UHSP history at 1.85m (6'0.75"). At the AMC Indoor Championships, Bushue was named Freshman of the Year after claiming the Pole Vault title, finishing second in the High Jump, and running a leg on UHSP's sixth-place 4x400m Relay.
This is Bushue's third AMC Player of the Week nod, after receiving Indoor Field Athlete of the Week recognition on Dec. 9, 2024 and Feb. 10, 2025.
Bushue and the rest of the Eutectic squad will be back in action this Friday, Mar. 21, when they compete at the Emory Spring Break Classic in Atlanta, Ga.
