Eutectics See Improvement at Billiken Invite

The Eutectic men's and women's outdoor track and field teams stayed in town for competition this Friday to participate in the Billiken Invitational hosted by Saint Louis University. It was as close to a home meet as the UHSP team would get, as the meet was held on the track where the UHSP team often practices, not far from the UHSP campus.

Taylor Washington had the highest finish of all Eutectic athletes competing in the meet, finishing fourth (of 10) in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 15.71 seconds. Washington also competed in the High Jump, where she finished seventh of 13 with a leap of 1.47m.

Several Eutectic athletes broke their own personal records (PRs) at the meet, including Marlon Brown and Jared Morales in the men's 400m Dash. Brown's new PR in the event (53.56) was good enough for sixth place (of 12) in the meet. Morales ran a 53.65 for eighth place in the race, establishing himself as the fifth-fastest 400m runner in Eutectic history behind Brown.

Elizabeth Fritzler finished fifth of 11 throwers in the Discus with mark of 35.02m. She also exceeded her previous best in the Javelin Throw.

Alivia Simily made headway in her personal best performances in the long and triple jumps. With a mark of 9.67m in the triple, she earns the title of second-best triple jumper in UHSP history. Her new PR of 4.73m in the long jump, she maintains, but improves her third-best-ever long jumper position at UHSP.

Payton Burke also improved on her best time in the 200m and 400m Dashes. Her new best time of 1:08.04 in the 400 at the meet, established her as the fifth-fastest 400 runner in program history.

Hanna Burch also made it in the Eutectic Top-Five list with a 10.19m shot put mark – good enough for 11th place in the meet (of 18). Burch also improved her best Javelin mark.

The 4 x 100-meter Relay team of Mariah Scott, Arianna Buduan, Alivia Simily, and Taylor Washington ran the second-fastest relay time in UHSP history at 52.67.

Other UHSP athletes to see improvement in their previous personal bests include: Abby Baxter in the 1500m Run, Paulina Gutierrez-Trejo in the 100m Hurdles and 400m Hurdles, Kelsey Honeycutt in the Javelin, Lannah Prysi in the Discus, and Jeremy Smith in the 800m Run.

The Eutectics will be back in action next Saturday, April 13, at the Greenville College Select meet in Greenville, Ill.
