Washington and Ramsey Topple Records at First Outdoor Meet
The UHSP track and field teams opened the outdoor season with sophomores Taylor Washington and Brianna Ramsey smashing three of their own Eutectic records at the non-scoring CMU Open hosted by Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo., on Saturday.
Washington carried over her assault on UHSP records from indoor season, breaking two records she set last year in the 100m Hurdles and the High Jump. She took first place in the high jump, sailing to a new record height on her third attempt at 1.55m (5'1") to improve her own outdoor record from last season by 10 centimeters. In the hurdles, Washington's time of 15.47 was good enough for second place (of 10) at the meet, shaving off .13 seconds from her 2023 Conference Champion record time.
Ramsey also struck down her own UHSP record from last year in the Hammer Throw. On her very first attempt of the season, she hurled the hammer 41.99m (137'9") to punch her ticket to the finals and rewrite the school record that she set as a freshman at 41.40m. The new record mark would hold through the finals for a sixth-place finish of 23 competitors in the event.
Running their first collegiate 100m Hurdles races, Mariah Scott and Paulina Gutierrez-Trejo earned spots in the UHSP all-time top-five, turning in times of 17.90 and 18.95 for sixth- and seventh-places, respectively. Alivia Simily, competing in her first collegiate track meet ever, became the third-best Eutectic long jumper in history, leaping 4.62m (15'2") for 15th place.
Elizabeth Fritzler also shined for the Eutectics as the top UHSP finisher in the Shot Put and Discus at the meet to become the third-best in Eutectic history in those events. Fritzler just missed the finals, finishing seventh in both events at 11.43m (37'6") in Shot Put and 32.99m (108'3") in her last attempt at the Discus Throw. Hannah Burch also made her mark on the UHSP history books, becoming the fifth-best discus thrower with a mark of 29.37m (96'4").
Abby Baxter earned two personal records at the meet in the 1500m and 3000m races, becoming the second-fastest 3000m runner in Eutectic history at 13:03.03.
On the men's side, Marlon Brown led the UHSP sprinters and edged his way into the Eutectic all-time top-five with a 200 time of 23.76 and 400 time of 53.85.
Thrower Nick Fiacco recorded a new Personal Record, maintaining his status as second-best Hammer Thrower in UHSP history with a mark of 39.23m (128'8"), improving his own PR by nearly a meter to finish 14th of 22.
Jared Morales knocked off .82 second from his personal best time in the 400m Dash, finishing at 54.37 for 12th place of 21.
With the first outdoor meet under their belts, the Eutectics will be back in action in two weeks, competing at the Joey Haines Invite hosted by Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.
