Hines Defends Champion Title as Eutectic Men Finish Fifth at AMC Indoor Championships

Jahari Hines repeated his 200m Dash Champion title and led the Eutectic men's track and field team to a fifth-place finish at the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Indoor Championships on the campus of Principia College in Elsah, Ill., on Saturday.

For the third year in a row, Hines successfully defended his Conference Champion status in the 200m Dash. He finished with a time of 23.05 – just 0.2 seconds off his own UHSP record – to beat out second-place Sheldon Bergheger from Columbia College by .26 seconds and score 10 points for UHSP.

Earlier in the day, Hines finished second in the 400m Dash to earn All-Conference honors in the event and another eight points for the Eutectics. His time of 51.86 was just short of Columbia's Bernard Bailey's winning time of 51.58.

Hines was also part of the UHSP record-breaking 4 x 400m Relay, which scored six points for the Eutectics with a third-place finish. The team of Jared Morales, Zach Brasel, Marlon Brown, and Hines finished with a time of 3:40.05 to beat the UHSP record of 3:41.58 set last year by Morales, Brasel, Hines, and Carter Hemeyer. Hines finished the day having scored 19.5 of the UHSP team's 34 points.

The Eutectic 4 x 800m Relay Team made up of Jack Wolfe, Jeremy Smith, Brasel, and Brown scored five points for UHSP with a fourth-place finish at 9:13.81.

Jared Morales and Marlon Brown also scored points individually in the 600m Dash. Morales ran a personal-best time in the event of 1:28.63 to become the second-fastest UHSP 600m runner in history. He finished fifth of 16 racers to score four points in the event. Brown, running his first 600m race of the season, finished at 1:31.07 to finish in eighth place for one point.

The Eutectics' 34 points in the meet put them nine points ahead of sixth-place Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.). Columbia College earned the team champion title with 247.5 points.

The AMC Indoor Championships mark the end of the Indoor Season for the Eutectics, who will begin training for the Outdoor Season set to open on Saturday, Mar. 16, at the CMU Open in Fayette, Mo.
