Morales PR highlights solid weekend for Eutectics at Illinois College
The Eutectics made their second trip of the indoor season to Illinois College for the Jim Green Invite over the weekend. Jahari Hines qualified for the finals in the Men's 60M with a prelim run of 7.22 to win Heat 2 by .04. Hines would run the third fastest time in UHSP history with a 7.19 in the final to place sixth, 0.10 off his PR. In the Men's 200M Marlon Brown tied for 30th with a 24.64 while Jared Morales ran a PR of 25.58 to place 53rd. Brown also ran in the Men's 400M finishing 12th with the second fastest time in UHSP history with a 54.89, :01.02 better than his mark two weeks earlier at the Snow Bird Invite). Morales also competed in the 400M placing 17th at 56.75. In the Men's 800M, Jeremy Smith set a new personal best shaving :02.34 off his previous best with a 2:20.07 to finish 24th. Zach Brasel was 29th at 2:25.92 and Jack Wolfe ran in his first collegiate event and finished 31st with a 2:27.01.
Zach Brasel placed 40th in the Men's Mile with a time of 5:19.41. The UHSP Men's Distance Medley Relay team of Jack Wolfe, Jared Morales, Marlon Brown and Jeremy Smith placed eighth out of eight teams with a time of 12:35.50. In the Pole Vault, Brock Beins failed to record a cleared height missing on three attempts at 2.55M. Colton Duvall had his best throw of season in the Shot Put by .13m by tossing 10.00m (32' 9.75") in his third throw to finish 25th. Nick Fiacco threw 0.48m farther than Duvall to finish two spots ahead of his teammate. In the Weight Throw, Fiacco claimed 21st place overall with a toss of 12.25m (40' 2.25") on his third throw, the third best toss in UHSP history, missing his PR by .03m. Duvall had the fifth best in UHSP history and his best throw of season by .49m finishing 30th with a throw of 10.49 (34' 5").
On the women's side, Taylor Washington set a new school record in the 60-meter dash. Washington ran an 8.43 in the prelims for 15th overall and out of qualification for the final, but it did set a new UHSP program record topping the previous mark of 8.47 set by Grace Noble in 2013. Washington also competed in the Women's High Jump and placed fourth out of 11 with a leap of 1.45m (4' 9"). Mariah Scott and Madison Reinhold also ran in their first 60M with Scott finishing 23rd in the prelims with an 8.71, good for the 5th fastest time in program history. Reinhold finished 29th with a 9.75 as neither she nor Scott qualified for the final.
Payton Burke would claim 11th in the Women's 400M at 1:09.80, :03.27 better than her time two weeks earlier at the Snow Bird Invite. She replaces Taylor Prusa (2016) in UHSP history with the 5th best mark all-time. In the Women's 800M, Sophie Eastham ran a 3:09.93 which shaved :03.88 off her time at the Snow Bird Invite and was good for 17th place. Lilly Combs finished 18th at 3:17.82 in the first 800M in her career and Ajia Vigil finished right behind Combs at 3:41.08. Abby Baxter ran the Women's Mile and set a personal best with a 6.38.37 to place 16th. That time was :02.16 better than her mark last week at Prin Relays. In the Women's 60-meter Hurdles, Paulina Gutierre-Trejo ran a personal best of 11.11 in the prelims and finished fifth in the finals with a 11.13.
In the Shot Put, Hanna Burch's first throw of 10.55m (34' 7.5") gave her a tenth-place finish. Elizabeth Fritzler placed two spots behind Burch tossing 10.38m (34' .75") on her second throw. Lannah Prysi was 20th with a distance of 8.53m (28') on her second throw and Kelsey Honeycutt threw 7.90m (25' 11") on her first throw to place 23rd. Brianna Ramsey was sixth with a 13.13m (43' 1") in the Weight Throw to match her second best toss. Lilly Combs's first throw was 8.26m (27' 1.25") to place 27th.
The Eutectics are in Bloomington, IL this Saturday for the Titan Open at Illinois Wesleyan's Shirk Center Indoor Track. That will be the final meet before the AMC Indoor Conference Championships in Elsah, IL hosted by Principia College on February 17.
