Late goal lifts Trojans past Eutectics

HANNIBAL, MO - The University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy fell to the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 2-1 in their American Midwest Conference meeting. 

The game started with a shot taken just two minutes into the game by Hannibal-LaGrange's Luis Llano, but was saved by UHSP goalie Wyatt Taylor. The Trojans dominated the first half taking nine shots to UHSP's two, keeping Taylor on his toes. The impressive saves by Wyatt Taylor forced the Trojans to continue to look for an opportunity.

As the half progressed, both teams faced challenges with offside calls and fouls. With the first half just seconds from finality, the Trojans scored off an assist from Andres Quintana as Henry Munoz pushed one past Taylor with one second left on the first-half clock, putting Hannibal-LaGrange ahead 1-0.

The second half saw UHSP come out fighting, determined to level out the score. They created several chances, including a close shot from Owen Rodgers that was saved by Trojan goalkeeper Geovanny Solis. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 77th minute when Kalel Mendoza found the net, assisted by Steven Hulsey, as he scored his third of the season to bring the score to 1-1. However, the Trojans quickly responded. Just minutes later, in the 87th minute, Georg Hiendl scored the game-winner, assisted by Henry Munoz, as the Trojans' picked up the victory by the score of 2-1. After forging a tie in the regular season meeting last year between the two, the Purple and Gold were looking for their first-ever win over the Trojans. The loss however dropped them to 0-9-1 all-time.

The offense in this one was heavily tilted towards the Trojans as they unloaded 23 shots overall to the Eutectics' seven. The Trojans had 13 total shots on target with the Euts registering just three. UHSP's Wyatt Taylor ended up making ten total saves on the day while HLGU's Geovanny Solis made just two. The Eutectics (1-11, 1-4 AMC) have just three regular season AMC games left on the docket. Next up is a road trip to Fulton, MO this Saturday night to visit William Woods (8-2-5, 4-0-1 AMC) at 8:00pm. Harris-Stowe comes to town next Tuesday followed by the regular-season finale on Saturday, November 2 against Missouri Baptist.
