Record-setting day as UHSP blasts Mission

SPRINGFIELD, MO – Nothing like a record-setting day to lift some weight off your shoulders. The Eutectics were winless entering their Saturday afternoon American Midwest Conference contest with the Mission Patriots. The University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy had been blanked three times and only scored six total goals all season heading into the matchup with conference's newest addition. The offense finally came alive and it resulted in the first win of the year for the Purple and Gold, a drama-free 8-1 victory. The eight goals were a new record in program history for most goals in a single game. The previous record was seven against Concordia Seminary set on Oct. 26, 2016.

To start the game, Kevin Lesmes needed less than a minute to get UHSP on the board with an unassisted goal just :56 into the contest on the Eutectics first shot of the game. It was the first of the season for Lesmes, but it would not be his last of the game. Just over a half-hour later, Lesmes would make it 2-0 as he buried a feed from Mohammed Alkenani past Mission netminder Jordan Shaw to give UHSP their first multi-goal lead of the season. The Patriots would have some chances, but Wyatt Taylor saved all three first-half shots on goal by Mission to hold the home club off the board. Steven Hulsey sent the Eutectics into even deeper unchartered territory, a 3-0 halftime lead as he scored his first of the season with 7:27 left in the half.

The halftime lead allowed the Eutectics to play a little more relaxed in the second half instead of having to chase what was happening on the scoreboard. Mission made things a little interesting with a goal from Edward Nembhard off an assist from Kauan Amaro to cut the deficit to 3-1 just 5:30 into the second half. That would be short-lived however as the Eutectics veteran Jacob Woodard took over. Just :33 seconds after Nembhard's goal, Woodard notched his fifth of the year as he scored a goal assisted by Pietro Martano for a 4-1 lead for the visitors. Just short of eight minutes later, Woodard scored again to make it 5-1. In the 70th minute Alkenani added another to make it 6-1 on his first of the year and the Eutectics were enjoying a rare offensive buffet. Meanwhile, Taylor was standing tall in net for UHSP. In between the pair of Woodard goals, Taylor faced three consecutive shots on goal in a span of 1:22, making the save on all three to thwart any potential rally by the Pats. The final of that trio of shots came from Owen Barker at 57:14. Mission did not get another shot until 27:16 later. UHSP poured it on after that. William Brinker scored at 77:58, Sasha Postol added another 2:17 later and the Eutectics were in the midst of a rout.

Wyatt Taylor had a terrific day in net making eight saves and allowing just one goal. Jordan Shaw got peppered for eight goals on 18 UHSP shots on goal, making ten saves. UHSP outshot Mission 28-13 overall.

The Eutectics (1-8, 1-1 AMC) play host to a national-ranked Columbia (5-1-2, 1-0 AMC) team in their next match-up when they host the Cougars next Sunday at 1:00pm at St. Louis University High.
