ST. LOUIS, MO - The Eutectic men's soccer team hosted the NCAA Division III Illinois College team from Jacksonville, Ill., on Sunday for a 1 p.m. matchup at the Saint Louis University High School football stadium. UHSP captain Jacob Woodard scored the first goal of the season for the Eutectics in the first half, adding to his school record, but the home team finished the game with a 6-1 loss to the IC Blueboys.
The visitors scored two quick goals to take a 2-0 lead after 13 minutes. But, at 18:45 Jacob Woodard was able to beat the Blueboy defense and streak down the field for a one-on-one chance against the IC goalie. Woodard blasted a shot to the lower left side of the goal as goalkeeper Owen Macias dove to the right. The goal was the first for the UHSP team this season and improves Woodard's UHSP record as his 29th career goal.
Woodard's goal buoyed the Eutectics for a bit, but it wasn't long before the Blueboys offense had penetrated the UHSP box once more. Tyler Schiltz would score his second goal of the game at 24:29 to put the Illinois College team up 3-1, a lead they maintained into halftime.
The Blueboys returned to the pitch in the second half and immediately pressured the Eutectics with their one-touch passing, scoring back-to-back goals at 50:30 and 51:37. After 23 minutes, UHSP's Ty Medlock was able to get UHSP's first shot off in the second half only to be saved by Macias. IC would score once more in the final minute of the game to give them a 6-1 advantage when time ran out.
UHSP goalkeeper Wyatt Taylor came off the line to break up potential attacks and finished with 11 saves in the game.
After four games, the Eutectics are still looking for their first win of the 2024 season as they get set to host NCAA Division III Blackburn College (0-2-2) from Carlinville, Ill., this Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. at Creve Coeur Soccer Complex in St. Louis County.
