Woodard puts on a show as Eutectics tie Mustangs

It was not a great close to September for the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Men's Soccer team. The start to October has gone much better. The Eutectics finished out the ninth calendar month by dropping three of their last four with the lone bright spot being a 4-3 win over Brescia. Otherwise it was UHSP being outscored 21-1 in their three losses. Following a nine-day layoff since their last game, UHSP opened the regular season's final month with a comeback 2-2 draw against Central Baptist.

Jacob Woodard got the scoring underway and did not take much time to do it. Grant Woodard took a free kick just on the Mustangs' side of midfield. The free kick was sent out by CBC and back near Woodard where he won a 50-50 battle up the left wing. Woodard delivered a cross that was initially broken up, but found Jacob Woodard and he pounded one past CBC keeper, Jasper Gadellaa for a 1-0 lead.

The Eutectics rode that Woodard goal all the way to a 1-0 halftime lead. Daniel Pinkney changed the tenor of the game in the second half as he put two past UHSP netminder Jack Wolfe to put the Mustangs ahead. The first came just 1:56 into the second half that tied the game, then Pinkney put Central Baptist in front with just 21-minutes left in the game.

But Jacob Woodard and the Eutectics were not done. Woodard rescued the Purple and Gold with his second of the game just six minutes after Pinkney put the Mustangs ahead by scoring his team-leading ninth of the year as the game finished in a 2-2 tie. It was the first time in their nine all-time meetings that the Eutectics played the Mustangs and came away with something other than a loss.

Woodard has now tied Josh Anim Ano (2016) for the most goals in a single-season in Eutectics history and can take sole possession as the record holder with his next goal. Woodard with the two goals also surpassed Anim Ano as the all-time leader for points in a single season with now 21 (9g, 3a). Anim Ano had 18 points in his nine-goal 2016 season.

The Eutectics (3-6-2, 0-2-1) have five games left in the regular season and their next one is Saturday when Williams Baptist comes to town.
