Will Turner leads UHSP men at William Woods

FULTON, MO – The second day at Tanglewood Golf Course proved to be more difficult than Round 1 for nearly all the Eutectics on Tuesday. Only one of the ten Eutectic golfers was able to improve on their opening round score as Brett Bushue went 82-81 to move up three spots overall from a share of 63rd to finish tied for 61st. Will Turner meanwhile carded a pair of 77's to finish at 154 (+10) and finish as the best UHSP male golfer. He finished tied for 29th which was an eight-position improvement from day one. Samantha Kasting topped the UHSP women's team and even though she added six strokes to her opening round 82, she ended up improving her overall position going up one spot from her day one 15th position to finish in 14th place.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Turner had four birdies and only a single double-bogey over the course of the tournament.
  • Abe Neal birdied a different par-3's on each day. On the front-9, he was +3 on day one, but bogeyed six of the nine holes on day two.
  • Alex Chandler had a solid back-9 on day one finishing two-over on holes 10-18.
  • Connor Kosola had 15 pars over the course of the 36-holes.
  • Cooper Thomas recorded a pair of birdies over the two days.
  • Spencer Worley of William Woods had a five stroke lead on the field after his round one 67. Columbia's Sean Minor stormed back after his day one 72 to earn a share of the individual championship carding a 68 on day two while Worley shot a 73 on day two. They both finished -4 for the tournament and won by four strokes over the nearest chaser.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Addison Sullivan fell two spots from 16th to 18th after going 83 then 92 to finish 177 (+31). Sullivan notched the lone Eutectic birdie over the two-day competition. She shot a three on the par-4, 314-yard fourth hole on day one. She bogeyed that hole in round two.
  • Kasting parred the first four holes in both rounds. She was even through six on day two.
  • Zoe Lopez had a tough start to the tournament. On day one, she double-bogeyed or worse five of the first seven holes. She had equal problems out of the gate on day two as the shot at least two-over on six of the first eight.
  • Grace Wilkinson only found four pars over the course of the two days.
  • Columbia won the overall team competition finishing 11 strokes better than second place John. A. Logan. But the Vols had the individual tournament champion in Marah Kirk who snuck past the day one leader in Camryn Swinfard of Columbia to claim the top spot. Kirk went 78-77 to finish 155 (+11) while Swinfard held a two-stroke lead after day one, but shot an 80 on day two to finish 156 (+12).
