Eutectics put three in top 10, finish 2nd overall
QUINCY, IL - In their third tournament of the fall, the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy finished runners-up at the Wildcat Fall Invitational at Spring Lake Country Club which was hosted by Culver-Stockton College. The Eutectics have improved dramatically with each of their tournaments so far, going from finishing 15th, then 8th to now 2nd place all within the course of a month on the calendar. Central Methodist ran away with the team title shooting 609 (+33). UHSP was in a battle with Culver-Stockton and Southeastern Community College (IA) and ended up finishing ahead of both with a 655 (+79). The Wildcats finished third five strokes behind the Purple and Gold with the Blackhawks at 673 (+97). Hannibal-LaGrange rounded out the pack at 716 (+140).
Will Turner and Brett Bushue were fantastic for the Eutectics competing well with the top of the field. Turner had one hole each day that gave him trouble that may have kept him from a top-5 finish overall. On day one, it was the par-4 17th where he carded a seven. It was the same scenario for Turner on day two at the par-4 12th where he triple-bogied. But Turner had a pair of birdies on day one despite dealing with a tough wind and registered an eagle on the second day when he needed just a pair of shots to solve the par-4 414-yard fourth hole. Turner finished sixth overall and just six strokes behind the individual winner, Garrett Rikel of Central Methodist. Rikel shot a two-day total of 151 (+7) while Turner finished at 157 (+13).
Meanwhile, Brett Bushue had an interesting start to his tournament. On day one, he either birdied or bogied each of the first eight holes. He birdied the second and sixth holes as his score rollercoastered as he made his way to the turn. On the back nine, he parred five of the nine holes to finish at 80 overall. Bushue's second round was not as topsy-turvy, as he parred half the holes on his round. But four bogies, a birdie and a trio of double bogies all made for an 81 as Bushue finished 161 (+17) and seventh place overall. Connor Kosola was five strokes better during round two going from 85 to 80. Kosola parred only four of the 18 holes in round one as he had 11 bogies and two birdies. He started his round with an eight on the 313-yard par-4 opening hole. Kosola was more stable on day two including a par on that troublesome opening hole and having just six bogies on the day. Kosola finished with a 165 (+21) and tied for eighth overall with Jacob Thomas of Culver-Stockton.
As far as the rest of the Eutectics, Abe Neal was 15th with a 172 (+28). Alex Chandler had a 182 (+38) to finish 22nd and Cooper Thomas was two behind Chandler at 184 (+40) finishing tied for 25th.
Just after the weekend, the Eutectics are part of the field i Holts Summit, Mo. for the Railwood Open hosted by William Woods at Railwood Golf Club.
