Eutectics offense explodes for big win over Mission

ST. LOUIS, MO – The UHSP Eutectics put on a strong offensive performance, led by a 40-point performance from Ahian Barnett as UHSP snapped a six-game losing streak against the Mission Patriots as UHSP pulled away in the second half to secure a 108-94 victory. The Eutectics outscored Mission 59-44 in the second half to seal the win. It was an upset win for UHSP against a Patriots team that entered the day sitting as the 7-seed for the upcoming AMC Tournament.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • UHSP trailed early at 8-7 when the Eutectics got a Moctar Keita dunk, layups from Dwight Newsome and Ahian Barnett and a Brock Davis triple to go on top 16-8.
  • With 4:49 left in the half, Newsome hit a three-ball to give UHSP a 43-35 advantage. Mission closed the half on a 15-6 run to lead 50-49 at the break.
  • Early in the second half, neither club could gain much separation. Bryant Odunayo gave UHSP a seven-point lead at 68-61 with 12:36 left.
  • UHSP extended the lead to 13 with 8:33 left when Ahian Barnett hit a three.
  • Newsome had a layup with an and-one to make the lead 20 at 93-73 with 5:47 left and it was UHSP's game to lose. It was still 20 at 108-83 and some cosmetic points late by the Patriots gave UHSP a 14-point win.   
  • Dwight Newsome added 19 points, four rebounds and four assists. Sean Paradise Jr. had 15 points and eight boards.
  • Jacques Thomas led Mission with 23 points and seven rebounds.
  • UHSP won the game despite hoisting 18 fewer field goals. The Eutectics shot an electric 59.6% (34-of-57) while Mission was 30-for-75 (40%).
  • The Eutectics made 13 three on 28 tries (46.4%) as Mission went 11-of-31 from deep (35.5%).
  • The 108 points tie for the sixth most scored by the Eutectics since records have been kept in 1999. Barnett's 40 points tie for the seventh-most scored in a single game.
