
Spartans Victorious over Eutectics
ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eutectic men's basketball team travelled across town to return an American Midwest Conference (AMC) game at the Missouri Baptist University Spartans' home court on Thursday night, falling 89-68 to the home team. The Spartan victory pushes the MBU team into sixth place in the Conference with an AMC record of 7-6. With an overall record of 6-17, the Eutectics continue to hunt for their first Conference win of the 2024-25 season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- The game started out close, with Brock Davis's and-one tying the game at 11 apiece after three minutes. But, the Spartans followed that up with a 16-point scoring run to take a lead from which the Eutectics could not recover. At halftime the MBU team held a 48-29 lead over UHSP.
- The Eutectics closely matched the Spartans in the second half, scoring 39 points to MBU's 41, but could not make a dent in the home team lead.
- The Eutectics shot 90% from the free throw line (9-10) and scored 21 points from the arc in the game. UHSP's overall field goal percentage was a respectable 41.3%, but the Spartans notched 54.5% from the floor.
- Four Eutectics reached double figures in scoring, led by Brock Davis's 15 points and eight rebounds. Landon Engelage dropped in 11, while Ahian Barnett and Dwight Newsome each finished with 10. Moctar Keita had eight points and four assists. Bryant Odunayo (5), Hayden Campbell (4), Yigit Ekinci (3), and Sean Paradise Jr. (2) also scored.
- MBU's Courtland Soll notched a double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Breven McMullen was the high scorer in the game with 18 points.
NEXT UP:
The Eutectics will play host to the Williams Baptist University Eagles (4-15, 1-12 AMC) on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 3 p.m. The Eagles edged out the Eutectics 87-84 in Arkansas back in December for their one Conference victory of the season. The Eutectics are looking to even up the home-and-home tally with WBU at Saturday's matchup in St. Louis.
